Incorruptible Saints: The Hows and Whys of the Holy Spirit’s Power

The hypothesis: The incorrupt bodies of Catholic Saints (currently numbering over one-hundred-fifty) are an example of the instrumentality of water and biological light in sending out (i.e., communicating) the power of the Holy Spirit. The phenomenon of incorruptibility among certain saints occurs when their bodies either entirely, partially, rapidly, slowly, or fully arrest the natural decaying process — even after many centuries. There are three critical components to the instrumentality of created things that are acted upon by the power of the Holy Spirit. They are: structured biological water; sound waves; and organically generated electromagnetic energy. The Holy Spirit gifts incorruptibility to saints in the form of Gratuitous Grace. The prime efficient cause of this phenomenon is efficacious, sanctifying, intimate, and literal (although meta-sense-able) one-flesh relationship (a Covenant of Salt) between Jesus and his saints — i.e., saints whose hearts were especially inflamed with holy desire by the Holy Spirit. Holy desire enflames the spiritual soul with longing for a perfect and complete union with the Resurrected Jesus; a union accomplished by frequently receiving Jesus in the marriage banquet of the Lamb (Rev 19:7-10), i.e., the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the reason why incorruptibility is even possible, but only in the New and fulfilled Covenant of Salt. I am not aware of any deceased person bearing an incorruptible body during the entire span of the Old Covenant of Salt (the Old Covenant).

What Motivates God to Keep the Bodies of Some Saints Incorrupt?

Why is man, who is made in the image and likeness of God, so valuable to Him that He would preserve some of them from bodily corruption? Here are a few quotes from St. Hildegard of Bingen (a Doctor of the Church) informing us of why it is so:
1). In a section titled, “On the sandy globe of the earth and what it signifies” Hildegard tells us, “Of all the strengths of Gods creation, Mans is most profound, made in a wondrous way with great glory from the dust of the earth [emphasis SML] and so entangled with the strengths of the rest of creation that he can never be separated from them.”[i] The world, including the earth from which man is made, will be made newbut it will never end. Why? Because man (whose glorified body will still be physical, but not mortal) will live eternally. How do we know? In a prayer that millions of Catholics pray every day, we say: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever, world without end. Amen (so be it). Our bodies, made from the dust of the earth, are the new world.
2). Man, having been delivered, shines in God, and God in Man; Man, having community in God, has more radiant brightness in Heaven than before. This radiant brightness would not have been so if the Son of God had not put on flesh, for if Man had remained in Paradise, the Son of God would not have suffered on the wood of the cross. But when the wily serpent deceived Man, God was touched by true mercy and ordained that His Only-Begotten would become incarnate in the most pure Virgin.[ii]
3). “Therefore, the human form is to be seen in the inmost nature of the Deity [see I AM That I AM], where neither angels nor any other creatures appear; because My Only-Begotten, to redeem the human race, assumed human form in the flesh of a Virgin. And He will carry in His heart those who are with young. How? My Son carries human beings in His blood, and saves them by His five wounds, for whatever sins they have committed by means of their five senses are washed away by supreme justice when they repent; and He carries them so because He was incarnate, and suffered wounds on the cross, and died and was buried, and rose again from the dead.
“And He has stretched out His hand to them and drawn them back to Himself. How? When He assumed humanity for them, though they thought they were lost when Adam fell. For My Only-Begotten conquered death, and it could no longer triumph over them; and so He knew them in the power of His glory, and knew that they were to come to Him by the purgation of penance.”[iii]

Does the Holy Spirit Produce Physical Changes via Water?

In the Books of Exodus, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, and Joshua, there are multiple mentions of bodies of water being divided by the power of the Holy Spirit, i.e., physically altering the behavior of water. Evidence of that is when the Holy Spirit parted the waters of the Red Sea (Ex. 14:21) and the waters of the Jordan River (2 Kgs 2:8; Josh. 3:12-17). Could incorruptibility be linked to the splitting or dividing of H2O water molecules? When the water molecule is split, one is left with two hydrogen ions (the most common element in the universe — 90% of visible and meta-sense-able parts[1] in the cosmos) and one oxygen ion? Hydrogen is the same element comprising the vast majority of the sun’s energy, which is an element essential to life. Oxygen is essential for metabolism; it is also essential to the existence of all life. The fusion of two hydrogen atoms starts the chain reaction that leads to radiant light (electromagnetic energy) and heat that reaches our planet from the sun.[2] The splitting of water molecules occurs naturally in plants through photosynthesis. This process is the source of all oxygen on earth (see endnote for Journal Source).[3] The splitting of the water molecule in the living organism is critical to the functioning of every cell in our body.[4] Absent the water-splitting process, we would die very quickly. Is it possible that references to parted waters in Scripture are God’s way of giving us clues to guide us toward understanding how light and energy came into existence? Please note: linking scriptural references to “parted waters” with any biological phenomenon is educated conjecture, which is backed up by current science in the literature, and Scripture.
St. Thomas Aquinas. He writes, “…owing to Christ's infinite power, just as through contact with His flesh the regenerative power entered not only into the waters which came into contact with Christ, but into all waters throughout the whole world and during all future ages.”[5] Furthermore, according to Hildegard, God told her, “The Son of God … surrendered to the waters and made them holy with his body [SML].”[6]
Is it possible that the phenomenon of the incorruptibility of the body of some of the saints involves the Holy Spirit’s actions on structured biological water? Science provides more and more evidence enabling us to say yes to that question! Of all the molecules in the human body, 98-99% of them are water molecules.[7] The average adult body is approximately 77% water by weight;[8] about 66% of all the water in our body is contained within its cells.[9] That being the case, it is important for us to understand a little bit about biological water, or as I like to call it, bio-living water.
Currently, there are three known phases of water, i.e., solid (ice), liquid (water), and gaseous (water vapor). Dr. Gerald Pollack, a University of Washington professor of bioengineering, has developed a new theory of water that has been called revolutionary. He has discovered a fourth phase of water consisting of exclusion zones bounded and uniquely structured via the natural incorporation of hydronium ions (H3O+). According to Pollack, these hydration shells coat every solid cellular surface in the body. Outside the tight confines of the cell, structured water can project from a nucleating surface by distances up to a full meter. However, it takes millions of layers of these molecules to create that depth of layering.[10] Within the small spaces of the cell, the hydration shell will reach about one hundred layers.[10A]
His theory is already solving many of the mysteries of water heretofore were inexplicable. Let's look at what scientists are saying. According to biologist Vladimir Voeikov, there are increasing amounts of scientific evidence indicating that biological water, working together with the solid surfaces of the cell (e.g., proteins, DNA, and cell membranes), determines the organization of living organisms at all levels.[11]
The structuring of water depends upon the environment within the cell, i.e., the energy state and ionic content within the cell.[12] The living cell is in a state of continuous fluctuation of the structure of the water molecules. These fluctuations maintain balance within the cell. Without this balance, the organism cannot function properly.[13] More and more scientific evidence is leads to the conclusion that structured molecules of water (both intracellular and extracellular) in conjunction with cellular solids, such as proteins, determine biological activity at all levels of organization within living matter.[14]
Thus, we can say how important structured bio-living water is for the redemption of the body (cf. Romans 8:23) — a body that does not decay. For example, a protein surrounded by a stabilized structure of water (high hydrogen bonding) will be less likely to unfold (protein unfolding results in either the cessation of the function of the protein or it causes the protein to malfunction[15]) while a less stable water structure would allow for more protein flexibility and an increased possibility of unfolding.[16] Scientific research is increasingly pointing to the notion that even major conversions of the shape (folding) of proteins are result from structured water within the protein's environment.[17][18]
Why is protein shape so important? When a protein is made by one cell, it is intended to deliver its instructions to a different cell. Depending on what type of cell it is, each cell in the body has ‘receptors’ outside or outside of the cell wall. A protein and a receptor have a sort of lock and key relationship. The ‘key’ is the protein, and the ‘lock’ is the receptor. If the shape of the key does not correspond with the shape of the lock, the ‘door’ will not open, and the instructions the protein is carrying will not be delivered to the cell. When a protein is made, it ‘folds’ into a particular shape to fit into the receptor of the target cell, opening the door. When the door to the target cell is opened, the instructions the cell receives will be carried out. One example of a protein’s impact on the body’s redemption, or lack thereof, is monoamine oxidase.
Why is this protein so important? It is a protein that degrades amine neurotransmitters, such as dopamine (a hormone primarily involved in addictions), norepinephrine (a stress hormone which is also involved in the fight-or-flight response. Stress produces serious detrimental effects on the entire body), and serotonin (affects the function of most of our 40 million brain cells, including those associated with mood, sexual desire and function, appetite, sleep, and more.[19] Studies have shown that conversions (shape changes) of minor populations of proteins can serve as the seed for shape changes of the entire population of the same kind of protein — creating a domino effect.[20] To summarize: 1) structured water propels and guides protons throughout the body, which in turn affects the function of enzymes (a type of protein), which in turn determine, in some part, whether our bio-water is bio-living water or saltwater; and 2) the actual structuring of water molecules themselves affect the functioning of the cell and its contents (e.g., hormones) which, in turn, affect the “freshness” of our water.
When combined with the energy of light and sound, these facts play an integral part in understanding the incorruptibility of the bodies of saints. The discovery of structured water revolutionizes our understanding of how the body functions. It has opened our eyes to the profound interaction between bio-living water and photons of light. When God teaches us about Living Water and the light of Truth, he wasn’t only referring to the spiritual. In fact, because of this new understanding, we now can suggest how the Holy Spirit uses bio-living water to stop, for example, the decaying process that should occur in the deceased saint but is instead miraculously kept fully or partially incorrupt. It also suggests the possibility of the instrumentality of water in cleansing the physical bodies of those who are receiving the Sacrament of Baptism.

Does the Holy Spirit Produce Physical Changes via Electromagnetic Energy?

We've discussed the functional role of water. Now we’ll discuss the biological role of light in producing incorruptible bodies. Science is now showing that biological function at every level is primarily affected by structured molecules of water together with electromagnetic energy. Dr. Werner R. Loewenstein describes how all the vast amounts of information necessary to make the living organism’s hardware (e.g., DNA, RNA, proteins, cell membranes, etc.) ultimately come from photons (i.e., light).[21][22][23]
Dr. Kieth Scott-Mumby writes,
With the work of Szent Gyorgyi and Herbert Frolich (both Nobel prize winners) and especially the recent work of Fritz Albert [Popp] on the biology of light and electromagnetic inter-cellular bio-communication, we know today that the nucleated cells, by the way of physical and vibratory configuration of its DNA, is capable of picking up, storing and broadcasting information… [And] demonstrated that cells communicate with one another, coherently, by exchange of photon quanta [light].[24]
Within the scientific literature, it is now well–established that living organisms react sensitively to electromagnetic fields in a range of frequencies and strengths. The human body emits electromagnetic fields in a range of frequencies, including microwave and optical (although too weak to be seen by the naked eye).[24B] Even of weak and extremely low frequency, these fields are used by humans on a molecular level for information exchange.[24C][24D] One example of this comes from a study published in Nature Biotechnology in 2002 and Discovery News in 2011. By simply emitting photons at a particular wavelength, scientists initiated specific genes within yeast cells to produce proteins through epigenetic–driven mechanisms. When they stopped emitting the photons, the protein production stopped.[24E] These experiments demonstrate that electromagnetic energy (light) triggers epigenetic mechanisms.
The majority of this physical light is produced by the heart. Too often, we tend to, without realizing it, separate physical from spiritual believing them to be mutually exclusive. So, for example, we tend to think that grace only affects our spiritual soul, but not our body. The reality is, grace is designed to transform both body and soul. According to Fr. John Hardon, both Sanctifying and Actual grace are given in each of the seven Sacraments.[25] This fact applies to the Body, Blood, Spiritual Soul, and Divinity of Jesus in the Eucharist.
We know that Sanctifying Grace is a direct gift of God in the spiritual soul. Actual Grace communicates grace through physically created things (both sense-able and meta-sense-able). So, let’s look at one of the primary Actual Graces communicated to the Eucharistic communicant through Jesus’ body in the Eucharist — especially his human heart. To understand how it is impossible for Sanctifying Grace not to also produce Actual Grace. There is very little doubt, based on current research that electromagnetic radiation (light) generated by the human heart has an impact on others. Not only on ones own body but also on the body of those with whom one is in close proximity. The latter is especially true if we have an intimate relationship with that person. German physicist and Nobel Prize winner Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp discovered that ultra-weak light emitted from a living organism, including human beings, is so quantum coherent in the ultraviolet to red electromagnetic wave spectrum that the human body behaves as if it were a laser, but with a few significant differences.
These differences are:
1) the radiation intensity from the living organism is several orders of magnitude weaker than a laser;
2) the degree of coherence of the radiation in the living organism is many orders higher than a technical laser; and,
3) the radiation generated from within the human body is coherent over a range of wavelengths (polychromatic), while a laser is coherent in only one wavelength (monochromatic).[26]
The heart communicates with the entire body through four means (see endnotes #36B - 36F below). They are:
1) neurologically (nervous system);
2) biochemically (hormones);
3) energetically (electromagnetic energy); and,
4) biophysically (pulse waves, such as with the beating heart).[26B]
All of these energies produce profound changes to biological function.
No other organ is more powerful than the heart in generating global rhythmic pattern information within the body. It transmits electromagnetic, hormonal, neurological, and other information to the brain and through the blood. Research suggests the information transmitted by the heart to the brain can even alter brain function.[27][28][29] A critical factor in understanding why we must eat Jesus is this: the heart is the largest electromagnetic energy (light) generator in the entire body. Its electromagnetic field envelops every cell in the body.[30] Every drop of blood we have is pumped throughout the body via the energy of the pulse waves of the beating heart. The body is enveloped in the electromagnetic field the heart generates. This cardioelectromagnetic energy surrounds every cell in the human body. The magnetic field generated extends outward several feet or more in all directions from the body.[31][32]
The magnetic field produced by the heart is five-thousand times stronger than the field generated by the brain.[33] Using a magnetometer to quantify the hearts magnetic field, it was discovered that the hearts magnetic field could be detected at approximately three feet away. There is a God-inspired reason why Jesus has a Sacred Heart — not, for example, a sacred liver, kidney, etc.

Testimony of the Saints

Here are some examples from the saints of the efficacy of the physical human heart affected by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and in communicating the grace of the Holy Spirit to others.
·       St Gertrude the Great had a great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. As a result of her purity of heart, she was granted a mystical encounter with St. John the Evangelist, the beloved Apostle who was given the singular honor of resting his head on the bosom/physical heart of Jesus during the Last Supper. In the Spirit, St. John took her to Jesus so that she, too, could lay her head on the bosom of Jesus. Then, as she felt the constant pulsations (the spiritual heart does not pulsate) of the Divine Heart and rejoiced exceedingly thereat, she said to St. John: “Beloved of God, didst not thou feel those pulsations when thou were lying on the Lord’s breast at the Last Supper?” “Yes,” he replied; “and this with such plenitude, that liquid does not enter more rapidly into bread than the sweetness of those pleasures penetrated my soul (clearly indicating Jesus’ physical – pre-crucified – heart and resurrected glorified heart), so that my spirit became more ardent than water under the action of a glowing fire.”[34] Note that the sweet pleasures of Jesus’ beating physical heart penetrated St. John’s spiritual soul. Also, note: as was revealed above, science has shown that the heart’s pulse wave energy communicates with the body.
·       Phillip Neri “kept the longest vigils and received the most abundant consolations. In this catacomb, a few days before Pentecost in 1544, the well-known miracle of his heart took place. Bacci describes it thus: ‘While he was with the greatest earnestness asking of the Holy [Spirit] His gifts, there appeared to him a globe of fire, which entered into his mouth [symbolizing his scriptural mouth, the body – SML] and lodged in his breast; and thereupon he was suddenly surprised with such a fire of love, that, unable to bear it, he threw himself on the ground, and, like one trying to cool himself, bared his breast to temper in some measure the flame which he felt .... all his body began to shake with a violent tremour; and putting his hand to his bosom, he felt by the side of his heart, a swelling about as big as a man's fist ... The cause of this swelling was discovered by the doctors who examined his body after death. The saint's heart had been dilated [expanded – SML] under the sudden impulse of love, and in order that it might have sufficient room to move, two ribs had been broken, and curved in the form of an arch. From the time of the miracle till his death, his heart would palpitate (beat-SML) violently whenever he performed any spiritual action [emphasis SML].”[35] The miracle above shows that the Light of the Holy Spirit produces a physical impact on the heart of flesh. Let us look at another miracle to help those who try to dismiss this by saying it was all spiritual, not physical. After the following example, I will explain the profound significance of these miracles in light of our spiritual soul.
·       The same phenomenon occurred with St. Gemma Galgani, but with minor differences from those surrounding St. Neri. “St. Galgani experienced an increasingly intense burning beginning in the center of her heart and then radiating outward. She describes the sensation as a hot poker penetrating her, so intense she needed ice to cool it. The pain and burning were not merely spiritual but also physical. The skin in the area of the heart was burned. When Venerable Father Germanus Ruoppolo C.P. placed a thermometer on the skin, the mercury immediately ascended to the upper limit of the gauge. This type of manifestation of the Spirit’s dwelling in the heart was experienced by St. Padre Pio (his skin temperature, especially during Mass, was over 120 degrees, the upper limit of the thermometer), and also St. Paul of the Cross.[35-A]
Galgani said that while this burning caused great pain to her body, she did not desire that excruciating pain to stop because of the sweetness it produced in the very depths of her soul (i.e., the mouth/body breathed in the Divine, causing the inner heart to overflow and be expressed via the body, especially the human heart). The palpitations of her physical [SML] heart during this phenomenon were so great that her chair and bed would shake, even though she remained quite calm. Like Phillip Neri, St. Gemma’s heart was also expanded. So much so that three of her ribs were broken at almost right angles. When her body was exhumed, physicians found that decomposition of the body had begun — except for the heart. It was found incorrupt, full of blood, fresh, healthy, and flexible.”[36] Note that Divine light does not produce heat. Moses was exposed to it, and Jesus was transfigured by it. Heat is generated when high-frequency electromagnetic radiation is absorbed into matter, such as the flesh in close proximity to the physical heart, which is likely happened during Eve’s creation.
Section Analysis and Summary: To understand the significance of the accounts given above, we must first understand the Spirit and the spiritual soul. Within the spiritual soul, there exist two levels of power. The upper powers are classified as the spirit/inner heart. The upper powers are:
1). intellect (not to be confused with the cranial brain);
2). free will;
3). understanding/wisdom, and;
4). memory (again, not to be confused with the cranial brain). The lower powers are the ones that control all the functions of the body (similar to the sensual souls of animals).
The two separate levels of power do not mean the spiritual soul is a duality, i.e., the upper powers dwelling in one location of the spiritual soul and the lower powers dwelling elsewhere. There is only one undivided spiritual soul. Therefore, when we are told that the Holy Spirit dwells in our inner hearts (i.e., the spirit), it refers to the upper powers of the one spiritual soul. However, because we have one spiritual soul, the purification resulting from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit overflows from the spirit and to the soul. Thus, the body is purified to the same extent as the spirit. What has just been discussed is summed up in one sentence written by Matthew. He writes: “For out of the abundance of the heart [i.e., the spirit of the spiritual soul] the mouth [i.e., the body controlled by the soul of the spiritual soul] speaks” (Mt 12:34). I might also reference that which Pope St. John Paul II teaches: The body speaks (makes visible) into physical creation the spiritual and the divine (i.e., the invisible), but it does so in the sense-able and meta-sense-able language of the body.
Let's examine the three events described above.
1) St. Gertrude was taken by St. John, who had laid his head on Jesus breast at the Last Supper. In the previous paragraph, What we have discussed would equally apply to the incarnate Jesus. After all, he was fully human in every way but sin. Therefore, he also possessed a spiritual human soul containing the same upper and lower powers as us, but always fully perfected. The Holy Spirit dwelled fully in the spirit of Jesus' spiritual soul. Thus, the overflow of his human spirit (i.e., inner heart) would be expressed through his mouth/body (including his heart of flesh) in the language of the body. Both St. John and St. Gertrude experienced a potent infusion of Gratuitous Grace. The spirit within the human spiritual soul does not pulsate. However, the overflow of the human spirit experienced by the human soul overflows, thus affecting Jesus heart of flesh. Remember, there are three phenomena the heart produces that profoundly impact the entire body:
Phenomenon 1). The highest level of energy relative to the heart and structured biological water is the energy of electronic excitation (EEE), which affects every cell in the body;[36B]
Phenomenon 2). The energy of pulse waves from a beating heart;[36C] and;
phenomenon 3). The energy of sound waves.[36D][36E][36F]
All three of the above profoundly impact structured water within the entire body.
2). Philip Neri experienced a globe of fire, which entered into his mouth and lodged in his breast. The globe of fire was the Holy Spirit. That the Spirit entered into his mouth was symbolic of the the Holy Spirit entering into Neris spirit/inner heart by means of body. The Spirit was about to impart Gratuitous Graces to the saint. Aquinas tells us that nothing is in the intellect which was not first in the senses.[Summa Theologiae Ia, q. 84, a. 6; 85, 1; ST Ia, q. 88, a. 2] When Aquinas refers to the intellect, he is not talking about the contents stored in the cranial brain. He is referring to one of the upper powers of the spiritual soul. That which renders man in the image of God. Therefore, as the spirit is purified so is the lower-powered soul, which directs the body. Entering through the mouth, the Spirit would cause the lower powers of the spiritual soul to produce physical counsequences to his heart of flesh, and vice versa. Ezekiel provides us with an insight to what is happening in this miracle. He writes; “A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone [not radiating the light of charity] and give you a heart of flesh” (Ez 36:26). The heart of flesh is the human heart communicating Gratuitous Grace to others through the means we have discussed previously. Neri was suddenly surprised with such a fire of love.” Understand, Divine Light does not produce heat (more on that in the next paragraph). The overflow of the human spirit through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, produced via the lower powers of the soul, physical changes to Neri's biological heart. In other words, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit had a profound impact on entire spiritual soul, which, in turn, produced profound physical effects on the body.
3). St. Gemma Galgani had similar experiences and impacts as St. Neri, but with important information additions . When Venerable Father Germanus Ruoppolo C.P. placed a thermometer on the Galgani’s skin, the mercury immediately ascended to the upper limit of the gauge. This type of manifestation of the Spirit’s dwelling in the heart was experienced by St. Padre Pio (his skin temperature, especially during Mass, was over 120 degrees, which was the upper limit of the thermometer). At this point, we must understand the two different types of fire in Scripture. The fire of the Holy Spirit is, well, spiritual. It does not produce heat. It is a holy fire of desire (thirst) for union with God. It is a Holy desire to know God fully knowledge. As Jesus tells us, “I came to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it were already kindled” (Lk 12:49)! Jesus is referring to the same fire that descended upon the Apostles at Pentecost. It was not physical fire. The fire in hell is this same desire, but it is a punishing desire. The condemned souls, out of their PRIDE, chose to separate themselves from God — to go before
God's judgment would require them to completely unmask themselves. It would hurt their pride too much to do that, so they run from God as fast as possible. What caused excruciating physical pain for Galgani and Pio was physical, though meta-sense-able, heat.
Divine light does not create heat. For example, the burning bush in Exodus 3:2 was not consumed by the the fire. Heat capable of consuming a combustible material can only be generated by created light existing in created time. Heat is the result of a photon traveling in a sine waveform that interacts with the electrons of physical matter with which it comes into contact. An example of such combustible matter is flesh near the physical heart. This contact causes energy transference, which results in the generation of heat.[36G] The human heart generates such photons — a LOT of them.
Since a sine wave can only exist in created time, it cannot be Divine Light (which exists in the Eternal Now) because Divine Light is not material and is outside of time and space. A sine wave is a product of something traveling in a roller coaster–type pattern. The object will transverse one peak, then one valley, and so forth for a certain period of time. In eternity, there is no passage of time. Nothing comes before or after something else. The process by which the saints experienced changes to their physical hearts is the same as described in the first paragraph of the summary analysis above.
Galgani and Neri provide us with some additional information. From the time of Neri’s miracle to his death, his heart would palpitate (beat SML) violently whenever he performed any spiritual action [emphasis SML].”[see endnote #36 for citation] Obviously, the biological human heart participates and is affected by acts of true charity. One significant fact is particularly germane to the subject of this Glossary Page. Glenn Dallaire said, “Like Phillip Neri, St. Gemma’s heart was also expanded. So much so that three of her ribs were broken at almost right angles. When her body was exhumed, physicians found that decomposition of the body had begun … except for the heart [emphasis SML]. It was found incorrupt, full of blood, fresh, healthy, and flexible.”[see endnote #36 for citation]

Does the Holy Spirit Produce Physical Changes via Sound Waves (including the Voice)?

An example of this biological and quantum (light) mix comes from cell biologist and chemist Vladimir Voeikov. He informs us that DNA, RNA, and proteins (polymers) undergo chemical transformations resulting from exposure to the energy of audible sound (e.g., voice) and ultrasound.[37] In other words, the sound waves of the voice impact the function and signaling of the salt of DNA and all of its products (e.g., proteins and cell membranes). Furthermore, the electromagnetic radiation caused by the beating heart is co-mingled with the sound waves from that same beating heart.
There is another level to the depth of this heartsound wave mystery. The internal matrix of the cell is permeated by a sort of scaffolding that is made up of fibers. These fibers continuously vibrate at specific frequencies, which change in response to environmental factors. The entire world of cells is vibrating in resonance with the cells scaffold matrix.[38] Until the development of Atomic Force Microscopy, these nanomechanical vibrations could not be detected. Is the phenomenon of cell vibration important? Drs. Carlo Ventura and James K. Gimzewski have been investigating the issue of cell vibration. These vibrations can be recorded as sound. They are now investigating whether or not the vibrations recorded from a beating heart affect the differentiation of stem cells[39] exposed to that sound (recall Adam’s rib). Initial results are promising.[40]
For more specific examples of this, let’s look at the work of musician, composer, and researcher Fabien Maman and Helene Grimal (a senior researcher at the National Centre for Scientific Research in Paris), as detailed in Maman’s book, The Role of Music in the Twenty-First Century, Raising Human Frequencies. The pair studied the effect of sound on uterine cancer cells at the University of Jussieu in Paris. In the first batch of experiments, they mounted a camera to a microscope and documented the impact on cells playing various acoustic musical instruments.
In the second batch of experiments, they used Kirlian photography to document the effects of sound on the electromagnetic field surrounding the cells. They would repeatedly play (at between 30-40 decibels) the Ionian Scale (notes C-D-E-F-G-A-B and C and D from the next octave above) for twenty-minutes. For example, in one set of experiments using the xylophone, only fourteen minutes of exposure caused the cancer cell to be destroyed. Note the use of Kirlian photography: it does not photograph one's aura, life force, etc. What it does show (in this experiment) is the effects of sound waves interacting with the intracellular bio-living structured water and, thus, the electromagnetic radiation emanating from within the cell.
According to Drs. Marion Ross and Tracy Latz, the human voice had the most dramatic effect on these types of cancer cells. Something peculiar to man’s voice (hearts energy that is responsive to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, perhaps?) singing the Ionian scale carries frequencies of vibration that caused the cancer cells to explode within nine minutes of exposure.[41] Remember the walls of Jericho tumbling down through a combination of trumpets and voices (Joshua 6:3-5)?
At least five facts help us understand the direct connection between the heart (electromagnetic energy), the voice (sound waves), and the cranial brain. They are:
1). The heart has its own independent “sub-brain,” so to speak;[41B]
2). In addition to those produced in the cranial brain, the heart brain independently produces hormones, including ones associated with attraction, reward, addiction, and bonding;[41C]
3). The heart-brain has an independent circuitry (nervous system) that allows it to sense, feel, learn, and remember;[41D]
4). All of the above would impact the messages sent by the heart to other parts of the body, including the cranial brain;[41E] and,
5). The heart sends and receives messages to/from the brain via the vagus nerve. It is important to recall that roughly 90% of the nerve fibers in the vagus nerve are dedicated to sending messages that originate in the “heart-brain” and are going to the cranial brain and other destinations. One of those other destinations is the voice box (the larynx).[42]
The heart sends information that directly impacts the physiological coherence of the brain[43], as well as other parts of the body, via the vagus nerve. A nerve is a cell that sends electrochemical signals (electric within the cell, chemical between cells). If electrons are flowing (electricity), then electromagnetic energy (light) is produced. The vagus nerve going through the myocardium of the heart would have been bathed in the EME field of the heart. One of the branches of the vagus nerve (the recurrent (inferior) laryngeal nerve) innervates (supplies motor function and sensation) to the larynx, in general, and the vocal cords in particular, and ends there.[44]
Positive or negative greatly impact the messaging of the signals the vagus nerve conducts, both to the cranial brain and the voice box. These signals greatly impact the harmony and coherence of all the muscles (including the vocal cords) innervated by the vagus nerve.[45] Doctors have discovered that, by placing a pacemaker-type of device in the chest and wrapping the wires around the vagus nerve in the neck area, 40% of the patients in a pilot study experienced relief from chronic depression (usually an emotion triggered by abnormal brain chemical expression). Researchers are not yet aware of the reason this treatment is successful.[46]
St. Hildegard teaches us more about the power of the human voice. She writes:
But after the Son of God had ascended to the Father, through the Son and according to His promise, the Holy Spirit descended. For now the whole earth was full of heavenly dew because the Bread of Heaven had been in it; the faithless had ignored Him like a false rumor, but the faithful had received Him with all their devotion. And so, because the true Word had become incarnate, the Holy Spirit came openly in tongues of fire; for the Son, Who converted the world to the truth by His preaching, was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And, because the apostles had been taught by the Son, the Holy Spirit bathed them in Its fire, so that with their souls and bodies they spoke in many tongues; and, because their souls ruled their bodies, they cried out so that the whole world was shaken by their voices.[46-B]
Speaking of the voice spiritual and physical power of the sound coming out of the mouth, let’s talk about Mary’s visitation to her cousin Elizabeth. Luke writes,
And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy (Lk. 1:41-44).
In Catholicism, the confection of a Sacrament requires two things: Form (i.e., the words spoken) and Matter (i.e., something within physical creation, such as water, bread, a ring, or wine). In this case, Jesus is the High Priest who was confecting a purifying Sacrament communicating both Sanctifying and Actual graces. John was an infant still in the womb. Infant John did not know Mary, who she was, and who was within her womb (toward which he could have faith). Absent the presence of Jesus, Mary’s voice would have been powerless to cause him to leap for joy or Elizabeth to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I believe Jesus gifted baby John and Elizabeth with His Holy Spirit, and Mary’s voice was the instrument through which he communicated that gift.
I believe this passage details the first instance of Mary exercising her role as the Mediatrix of all grace.[47] Furthermore, when analyzed in light of STOSS, it helps us understand how this title is justified. However, it should be noted that Mary could, in part, only be the Mediatrix because she was, and is, in an extraordinary and unique one-flesh union with the incarnate Son of God.[48] Here’s a very interesting fact about the physical bond between Jesus and Mary, especially a bond of the heart. It has only recently been discovered. It may lead to profound theological insights into the depth of the bond between Jesus and his mother, Mary.
Researchers at Arizona State University[49] have shown that mothers retain some of their babys functioning cells, even up to their death, documented in their 70’s.[50] This phenomenon is called fetal–maternal microchimerism. These cells can reside in the brain, heart (these fetal cells function as stem cells and differentiate into beating heart cells), bones, liver, lungs, other organs, and also in the mother’s circulating blood.[51] Retained fetal cells integrate into the mother’s tissue; they grow and proliferate.[52] In other words, they are living/functioning cells. Think about this: parts of the incarnate Word of God resided (and probably still reside) in Mary’s body. When we partake of the Eucharist, Jesus’ real presence within us is only temporary. In Mary, it is likely forever. The doctrine of concomitance informs us that Jesus’ body even the tiniest part of it can never be separated from the entire Jesus in his humanity and his Divinity. Could that doctrine be applicable in this circumstance?
The Assumption of Mary into Heaven, both body and soul, is a Dogma of the Catholic Church. Jesus is the Primary efficient cause for anyone receiving the Holy Spirit — he is the one mediator (1 Tim. 2:5). Still, through Mary’s one-flesh union with Him (Jesus’ flesh is 100% Mary’s flesh), Mary became the efficient secondary cause. Efficient cause means a person or thing that acts, happens, or exists so that some specific something occurs as a result; the producer of an effect.[53] We have already discussed extensively my belief that Sanctifying, Gratuitous, and Actual graces come to us through a meta-sense-able one-flesh nuptial union with the resurrected Temple. We who were all dead stones (salt of DNA) became living stones (1 Pt. 2:4-6) from which flow (out, via expression) the Living Waters of the Holy Spirit (Jn. 7:38) through said union (1 Pt. 2:5).

How does the Holy Spirit use Bio-Water, Light, and Sound to Keep Saints Incorrupt?

In response to the environment within the cell, it is a property of structured biological water to form a high viscosity glass-like matrix of structured water molecules[54] that can slow (or even stop) enzymatic chemical reactions within the cell, including metabolism.[55]
Speaking of metabolic regulation being affected by epigenetic plasticity, the following is one of those studies. Fernando Gómez–Pinilla, a UCLA professor of Neurosurgery and Physiological Sciences, analyzed over one–hundred sixty studies relating to the effects of diet via epigenetic plasticity on the human body. Here are only a few of the conclusions he wrote about in Nature Review Neuroscience. What we eat and drink will positively or negatively affect the likelihood of experiencing depression, mood disorders, dyslexia, schizophrenia, learning disabilities, dementia, brain function, and changes in the genetic expression of specific proteins that affect the brain’s cognitive and metabolic regulation. Like the previous study, he also reported that what we eat today will potentially affect our descendants’ physical and mental health. He further concludes what we eat will affect the brain function of our grandchildren.[55B] Remember Jesus telling us that his body and blood are REAL food and REAL drink. I guarantee you, the Eucharist (food and drink) substantially changes our spiritual soul and our physical body.
Research has shown that this glassy-state of cellular water allows anhydrobiotic organisms (organisms resistant to dehydration, e.g., seeds, bacteria, spores) to live despite the absence of water replenishment.[56] More precisely, anhydrobiotic organisms do not die from dehydration and do not undergo decay because the cytoplasm (the fluid mainly consisting mostly of water between the cell nucleus and the cell membrane) within their cells does not dehydrate; does not require replenishment. This resistance to dehydration is due to the glassy state of its water.[57] It might also be interesting to note that cellular water in a glassy-state cannot freeze, even at temperatures of minus 176° C (minus 285° F).[58] This fact is how researchers discovered the role of water in dehydration resistant organisms. They could freeze the cytoplasm of cells from organisms that were not dehydration-resistant, they could not freeze the cytoplasm of dehydration-tolerant cells.[59] Without a doubt, there are fluids retained in the bodies of incorruptible saints. We know this because blood and clear oils (high viscosity, gel-like water) have occasionally proceeded from some of their bodies.[60]
How does this relate to incorrupt bodies? To answer that question, we must first learn a little bit about the decaying process of a corpse. According to Dr. Arpad A. Vass, a professor of forensic anthropology at the University of Tennessee, decay starts with a sort of self-digestion process. Even though the body has died and a supply of oxygen is no longer available, the process of metabolism within the cells continues. A by-product of metabolism is carbon dioxide, which is acidic. As the acidity within the body's cells rises due to metabolism. It eventually causes the membrane of the cells to rupture. This rupture causes the release of enzymes (a type of protein) that digest each cell from the inside out.[61]
As mentioned above, cellular water, in conjunction with electromagnetic radiation, brings about a glassy state that can stop metabolism. If metabolism is stopped, then carbon dioxide is not produced, and the catalyst for “self-digestion” is taken out of the picture. As a result, the whole decay process is “nipped in the bud” before it can even start. Interestingly, examinations of tissue samples taken from the Eucharistic miracle at Sokolka, Poland (2008) detected none of the enzymes necessary for autolysis (cellular self-destruction).[62] Furthermore, in every Eucharistic miracle (of which I am aware) during which the sacramental veil was lifted from the Sacred Species, analysis of the flesh revealed showed that the flesh was myocardial tissue, i.e., muscle tissue from the heart.
A Eucharistic miracle took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1996. Once again, a consecrated host was dropped on the ground and subsequently placed in water to dissolve. After about nine days, it took on the appearance of blood and tissue. Samples were then sent to three different laboratories for analysis (circa 1996, 1999, and 2004). The last two labs were not informed of the story behind, or origin of, the samples, except to say that they were from a man who died. The results showed that the samples contained both red and white blood cells (only white blood cells contain nuclear DNA). The tissue was determined to be heart muscle tissue (myocardia) from the left ventricle.[63] Are you ready to be amazed? The blood cells were found to be alive and functioning. The cells from the heart muscle tissue were found to be moving and still beating [still generating electromagnetic radiation — SML]. Dr. Frederick Zugibe determined the tissue was from a man whose heart had been severely traumatized. The blood type and DNA exactly matched the blood/tissue sample from Lanciano and, therefore, were from the same person. The blood samples were determined to be 100% identical to blood samples taken from the Shroud of Turin and from the Sudarium of Oviedo (thought to be part of the burial cloth that had been wrapped around the head of Jesus).[64][65]
Have you ever wondered why God singled out the biological heart for so much attention? Depending on the version of the Bible used, the heart is mentioned approximately eight hundred times, more or less. In Catholicism, we focus on the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Why not His Sacred Brain? Or His Sacred Kidney? We describe the Blessed Virgin Mary as having an Immaculate Heart. Why not an Immaculate Kidney? Why not an Immaculate Brain? The first mention of the word “heart” in Scripture is, “The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5). Miracles of the Holy Spirit can help to answer that question.
St. Cyril of Jerusalem declared, “Even though the soul is not present, a virtue [indicating the unmistakable presence of the Holy Spirit and, therefore, an absence of decay-SML] resides in the body of the saints, because of the righteous soul which has for so many years dwelt in it, and used it as its minister.”[66] God tells St. Hildegard all virtue must be incarnated and perfected within the sensual body. According to St. Hildegard, virtues work through the body and soul together;[67] “a virtue is a divine quality that … fully incarnates itself [SML].”[68] What does this mean? It means: that as the heart is purified, so is the body.
In 2 Kings, we see another example of the Holy Spirit’s continued instrumental use of the corpse of a holy person to exercise his power. It reads, “So Eli′sha died, and they buried him. Now bands of Moabites used to invade the land in the spring of the year. And as a man was being buried, lo, a marauding band was seen and the man was cast into the grave of Eli′sha; and as soon as the man touched the bones of Eli′sha, he revived, and stood on his feet.” (2 Kgs. 13:20-21). Remember, Elisha was dead. His soul had long ago left his body. Since only Elisha’s bones were present in the grave, we can conclude his death occurred a long time before the present events described in this Scripture passage. Remember, only Elisha’s salt of DNA was in the grave. The dead man dumped there came back to life only after touching Elisha’s bones. The soul of the dead man dumped into the grave was not present. Consequently, the question of faith and free will played no part in this miracle. I believe it is clear that the power of the Holy Spirit used Elisha’s salt of DNA as an instrument of His power.
As I said, this is simply my hypothesis. However, there is one sure and reasonably easy way to test my hypothesis. In a structured bio-living water (in a gel state), the water in the cytoplasm cannot freeze.[69]. For a brief summary about the newly discovered fourth phase of water, read here. If scientists extracted a sufficient number of cells from incorrupt bodies, the contents of the cytoplasm could be tested. By subjecting the cells to extreme cold (well below freezing), they could determine whether or not the cytoplasm had frozen. If frozen, my null hypothesis would be wrong. If not frozen, my null hypothesis (i.e., incorruptible saints are a direct result of the presence of structured biological water in a gel-glassy state) would be statistically significant (i.e., p=<0.05).

Quote: Energy may be characterized by quantity and by qualities (forms, levels, and orderliness). Levels of energy are subdivided into translational (energy associated with the motion of a molecule in space), rotational and vibrational energy of parts of di- and many-atomic molecules. The highest level of energy relevant to further discussion is energy of electronic excitation (EEE). … All the metabolic processes in which living matter participate imply consumption, transformation, or generation of energy. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi was probably the first to claim that ‘bioenergetics is but a special aspect of water chemistry’ and that ‘... structure elements (of a cell) making possible electronic excitations which otherwise are highly improbable... in structured water electronic excitation may be surprisingly long-living, and this may be of a paramount importance for the biological energy transfer’ (Szent-Gyorgi, 1957).

Note: Water is essential for the regular combustion flow in living cells. Even more startling is that water itself can be burnt via the splitting of water molecules.[i] Sound waves play an active part in the splitting process and, therefore, the combustion of water in the human body. Obviously, this would result in the emission of photons. Water burning has to do with the transformation of ordinary H2O (the water molecule) being changed into H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide gas) through various means within the body and then being split — separating the hydrogen atom(s) from the oxygen atom(s). Not only is hydrogen a source of energy, but the oxygen gas (O2) is also a vast store of energy. However, due to the laws of quantum physics, the O2 must be activated before it is able to release its energy (in the form of photons).
